Water Everywhere? What You Need To Know About Plumbing Emergencies

Posted on

If you are a busy homeowner, you never want to deal with plumbing problems. Unfortunately, emergencies happen, and you can be left with non-functioning pluming issues that need immediate attention. That is when an emergency plumber is useful. There are several types of plumbing emergencies you may encounter that require the assistance of a plumber sooner rather than later. Here are some possible emergencies you may have:

Erupted Pipe

A pipe that has erupted is a serious issue that needs immediate professional attention. There are several ways a pipe can erupt. Freezing temperatures can cause a pipe to erupt when the water inside the pipes freezes and expands the pipes to the point that they break. Corrosion can also cause a pipe to break and erupt. Driving over a main sewer line can cause breakage and subsequent eruption. Once you call the emergency plumber, turn off the water supply to your house. When a pipe erupts, you stand the risk of major water damage in your house if you allow the water to continue to flow through broken pipes.

Clogs

Clogs are often easily dealt with by simply using a plunger. If you cannot dislodge a clog yourself, you need to contact an emergency plumber, especially if the entire home is impacted. If just one drain is clogged, you may be able to wait until the next day to deal with the clog. But certain clogs can block your main drain line and prevent any water from exiting the drains. If this happens, your sinks, toilets, and shower drains will not work, and you will not be able to use any of your home's plumbing. A plumber will have to snake out the entire main drain line to remove the clog. After the clog is removed, the plumber needs to get to the root cause of the clog. It could just be a one-time issue. But, there may also be a deeper problem that will require more in-depth repairs.

Leaks

Another emergency issue are leaks. Leaks are problematic because they can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. Even more problematic is locating the leak. Pipes can be in areas that are difficult to access quickly. A plumber needs to come right away to locate the leak and make the repair.

An emergency plumber is a great person to have in your contacts. You never know when an emergency will arise with your plumbing, so you need to be able to contact someone fast.
